Players from some of the best teams in New England displayed their talents last weekend in Lowell, MA.
2009 NESTARZ High School Pre-Season Showcase
NESTARZ hosted their annual pre-season showcase event and once again NERR was there. Here are some of the players that really impressed over the weekend.
NH SHOOTING STARS
#15 Laura Pierce 5’6 Point Guard Pinkerton Academy 2010– Excellent ball handler, a leader, makes the correct pass every time, post entry, one handed bounce passes off the dribble, 40 ft. no look chest passes for lay-ups, and spectacular behind the back dishes on the break. She can both quarterback the half-court offense as well as create her own offense. Shoots the ball well both off the dribble and catch. Her quickness combined with excellent footwork is enough to put opposing guards behind her
#3 AJ Guidi 5’10 Wing Pinkerton Academy 2010 – An excellent wing. A tremendous three-point shooter, starting and finishing high with excellent arc. Can score on other guards in post. Got on the floor after loose balls. Moves and reacts quickly on flight off the ball defensively.
#42 Siena Mamayek F/G 6’0 Melrose, 2010 – Played well both on the block and perimeter. Silky smooth three-point and did a nice job creating her own shot as well as putting the ball on the floor to get to the rim.
#4 Callie Cole PG Merrimack, 2010 – An excellent point guard in her own right. Quick and makes great decisions.
BASKETBALL TO THE LIMIT
#44 Brittany Obi-Tabot Watertown HS 6’0. 2010 – The most athletic player in the tournament. Displayed the strength to finish after being hit. Possesses a host of post moves, strong drop step, turnaround jump shot, lightning quick spin move. Also has the ability to turn and face up defender from high post, with strong show and go moves and can hit a mid range shot off a jab step move. Committed to Fairfield.
#41 Brooke Brennan, Weston 5’8 SG, 2011- Excellent three-point shooter with a quick release, hits the three over hard close outs. Has great anticipation on defense, moves well on flight of ball and will step in the passing lane forcing turnovers.
#1 Bria Tiro, St Mary of Lynn, PG 5’7, 2010 – True point guard, quick, and good handle and vision. Can pass accurately with one hand off the dribble and made some excellent long diagonal passes for lay-ups.
#2 Kelsey Johnson, Old Rochester PG 5’5, 2011 - Runs half court offense well, can hit the three, good on the ball defender.
#30 Alison Pemberton Weston 5’9 Wing, 2010 –Good shooter from three point range. Also has a nice floater and can finish after taking contact.
NE LADY PANTHERS
#33 6’1 Abby Riedel- Goffstown HS F/C 2010 – Has quick drop step move and nice touch around the basket. Gets the ball the outlet quick and solid passer out of the post. Has a good face-up game from the high post and puts he ball on the floor well with a good mid -range shot.
#10 Lauren Hebert 5’9 North Reading HS G 2012- Has mastered the seemingly lost art of mid range jump shooting off of the dribble. Can go from full speed to stop and pop on a dime. Consistently hit 15-18 footers over defenders outstretched hands. Also has a 3 point range. At 5’9 with long arms, has good length for a guard.
#21 6’1 Jennifer Bujnowski Salem HS F/C 2011 – Excellent shot blocker, has great timing challenging shots while defending the post, coming from help-side, or extending to help guards on the perimeter by challenging threes. Offensively keeps ball high at all times and shoots from a high point.
#31 6’1 Donavon Driscoll Chelmsford HS F/C 2012 – Excellent perimeter shooter, from both mid-range and three point range and virtually automatic from the foul line. Can also put the ball on the floor. Tough rebounder who never declines to box out.
#14 5’8 Andye Foley Goffstown HS G 2010- A super backcourt defender, defends well on the ball, has quick feet and uses length to get into the passing lanes and disrupt the offense.
#2 5’3 PG Trisha Luis Lowell 2013- A nice floor leader with a good first step. Good at drawing contact in the paint.
SOUHEGAN SUN
#33 Christian Wojitas 5’11 Souhegan HS Wing- A wing player with good length. An excellent shooter who hit many threes off the catch, as well as challenged mid-range shots off the dribble while fading away.
#22 Angelique Gosselin Nashua North HS 2011 5’7 G- Guard that can get to the basket and draw contact. Ball strong.
#3 Catherine Cloutier Londonderry HS 6’0 F/G- Played both on the perimeter and in the post, an excellent defender whose close outs very well on outside shooters lead to several blocks
#1 Jane White 5’6 Souhegan HS 2012 PG – Good floor general who can shoot from a distance.
#32 Molly Dalton 5’10 Souhegan HS 2010 Wing- A rugged wing with the size and strength to stand up to hand checking. Surprisingly quick and can hit the three.
BAY STATE BLIZZARD
#10 Alexandra Moore Pentucket HS 2011PG/SG- Takes the ball aggressively to the rim, finishing coast to coast on several occasions. Also finds the open player as help side defenders arrive.
#23 Nicole Viselli, 5’6 Pentucket HS 2013 Viselli 5’7 Guard – Two guard with unlimited range. Shot starts low but the release is quick. Hits threes from everywhere.
#11 Courtney Murach 6’0” Methuen HS 2011 6’0 F/C- Tough kid who rebounds well. Can put the ball on the floor and can score after being hit.
#24 Lauren Thayer 5’7” Manchester Memorial HS 2010 5’7 Wing- Nice show and go move, compliments her ability to hit the three well.
WESTERN MASS CHEETAHS
#1 5’4 G Stephanie Ryan – An excellent three point shooter who displayed quickness and flashiness on the break.
#12 5’3 PG Monique Heard Holyoke 2012 – The best and most polished guard playing in the freshman/sophomore division. Cat quick point guard who is an excellent decision maker on the break and in the half court offense. Has the strength and the craftiness finish around the basket, hitting odd-angle lay-ups and over the bigs inside. Excellent ball handler who can shake and bake with the purpose and footwork necessary to create offense.
#5 5’10 Ariel Ward – Long, slashing wing player who is tough and creative finisher around the basket. Very quick and athletic.
MASS BLUE DEVILS
#21 Catherine Tehan Holliston HS 6’0 C 2013 – Tough rebounder and has strength to hold position very well. A good low post scorer who did a nice job presenting to the ball and getting a good seal.
#5 Natalie Leone Ashland HS 5’9 PG/SG 2013 - A long left-handed guard who played both guard positions well, hitting threes and taking the ball to the rack aggressively.
