New England Recruiting Report
Class B appears extremely competitive again this year. Will the cream rise to the top again?
The outlook in the SMAA Class B is characterized by those teams that return a number of experienced players and have made deep playoff runs in recent years as well as those that are made of young players who have played significant minutes and are hoping to capitalize on this experience to make a run for the playoffs. The result of which should lead to an exciting and dynamic year in Class B. York who lost in the state championship lost two starters but are still rich with talent – 6’0 senior Niki Taylor is already one of the top players in the state, junior Stephanie Gallagher is a tremendous shooter and freshman newcomers Emily Campbell and Marquis MacGlashing are talented players who should contribute right away.
Greely led by Abby Young, a gifted and athletic post player, is balanced and talented. They certainly should give York a run for their money. Senior Karlee Biskup is a solid point guard who controls tempo and good in all facets of the game. Like Greely, Lake Region returns all five starters and gained valuable playoffs experience last year. This senior laden team has a number of offensive weapons and can score in bunches.
Several teams who return a majority of their starters and will be looking to make a playoff run are Cape Elizabeth, Fryeburg Academy, Freeport and Wells.
