New England Recruiting Report
The field in Class M & S appear to be wide open at this point
Class M
Both the Class M state title champion and runner up were elevated to Class L so a race to the finish among several teams has begun. Kolbe Cathedral has Cherelle Moore who is a tremendous talent and has the ability to score inside and out. Coventry last year’s class S finalist, despite losses, returns junior forward Kelly Myers who averaged a double-double last year. Law led by Marist bound Casey Dulin, a well balanced attack of veterans and some solid young players in Phoebe French and Jackie Kochiss should be able to make a deep state tournament run. Tolland is inexperienced but behind the exploits of sophomores Jess Olsson and Kristin Schatzlein they should be able to compete. Sheehan returns leading scorer Bre Butler and Chelsea Neelon along with several veterans this group may be poised for a nice tournament run. Several other teams including Sacred Heart, Woodland and RHAM could also be contenders.
Class S
In Class S, Old Lyme will be looking to go back to back in terms of state titles and senior forwards Catherine Logan and guard Cassie Algar will help lead the charge. Cromwell return four starters from last year and they have considerable speed to burn to go along with their deep bench. Junior Alex Marchinkoski and seniors Jenna Pitruzzello, Kaliegh Robbins, and Alyssa McMahon should enable this team to compete in the tournament but it remains to be seen if they have enough to beat Old Lyme in their division. After going 14-9 last season, Platt Tech may be ready to take the next step as they return all conference sophomore Julia Navarro who averaged 12ppg and 4apg as well several seniors and the addition of 6-4 freshman Aaliyah Bohannon who is raw but gives them an immediate presence down low. Putnam will be experienced and talented at the guard spots with all state selection Katelyn Tarr returning for her senior year. A strong junior and sophomore class will help provide depth as well. Parish Hill returns three starters including senior post player Rachel Landon and junior shooting guard Alli Curry. Finally, St Paul’s returns four starters off last year 16-9 team and could do some damage later in the year with such a senior laden team.
